The tricks dogs teach us

Daddy found this book on his browsing. What do you think? Here is an excerpt:

The tricks dogs teach us are more important than any tricks we can ever teach them.
We teach them to beg, roll over, and fetch. They teach us about loyalty, friendship, enthusiasm, joy, patience, forgiveness, and unconditional love.
We teach them words. They teach us with actions.
We teach them to be obedient. They teach us to be observant.
We teach them about the meaning of commands. They teach us about the meaning of life.

Pancake Day

Yummee! I had my first pancake tonight as it is Pancake Day. I think I would have preferred a bit of meat in it though, rather than sugar. By the way, I am 14 months old today. Daddy says it's about time he weighed me. He thinks I'm quite a bit heavier but I think he is getting weaker in his old age. I don't want him to get the idea I'm eating too much.

Another lovely day

I've lost my red kong, so I've got this blue ball now. Stop playing with that camera and play with me!

I bet you can't see me!

What's a llama?

On my afternoon constitutional today, we came across this strange animal. We didn't know there were any so close. I did what had to be done and barked at them, from the other side of the fence of course.

My war wound

Daddy was encouraged to take me to the vet because of the gash from the barbed wire on Tuesday. So, off we went. (I didn't know what all the fuss was about.) Anyway, I was pleased to go there - I like meeting people. The vet gave me a good look and said if I had gone straight after it had happened I would have had a couple of stitches. But as it is, it is healing up with no infection and the cream that Daddy has been using has been doing its stuff. It would have to be opened up again to put stitches in now. Now it's no more cream and bathing in salt water for a week. I will have a scar but no-one will see it.

Frog spawning

This week, each time I pass the pond, it looks like some piranhas are having a feeding frenzy. It's frog spawning time and haven't we got a lot of frogs!

Training

It's half term this week and a few of my school-mates were missing. Even so, I had a good time and the trainers thought I have improved since last week's embarrassment!

Barbed wire

Ouch! On my long walk on Tuesday, I tried to jump over a 4 foot barbed wire fence and caught my back legs on it. I've been very brave, and Daddy only noticed the wound when I started licking it back home. Anyway, Daddy has got some cream for it and needs some devious tactics to apply it. I am very suspicious of him at the moment but it is getting better.

Food for thought

Dog tired

Today, I walked my longest ever walk so far. Daddy and his friend walked 14 miles, but I reckon I walked about 3 times that. It is hard work rounding them up and chivvying them along. They are soooo sloooow. We walked to Iron Acton via Rudgeway and back via Latteridge. The walk was very eventful; the highlight was chasing a deer. I am now having a well-earned rest. zzzzzzzz

The Dog's B*ll*cks!

Came across a lady this morning with her dog, as one does. The dog had a ball in his mouth, as I had. The lady said we both had balls. I wasn't sure what she was referring to.

Then Stephen Fry was talking at lunchtime on "Fry's English Delight" on radio 4 about cliches and the derivation of the phrase "the Dog's B*ll*cks". You can see further suggestions here: http://www.stephenfry.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3019. I am now totally confused.

And for your amusement, here are some interesting piccies: http://www.400smilesaday.co.uk/.

In the dunce's corner

I had a bad session at school on Wednesday. I was put in the corner and made to write out 50 times: "I must sit on command".

Sporty looking dog contest

Daddy's entered me into this photographic competition, see: http://ladyzenasdiary.blogspot.com/search/label/sporty%20looking%20dog%20contest. I'm entry no 17. He thinks I am quite sporty and that this photo will do well. VOTE FOR ME!

If I could enter a second photo, then I think I would have entered this one.

A fox

I forgot to mention I saw a fox at dusk earlier last week. I chased it, but it disappeared into thin air. Daddy was pleased. I will have to look up in the retriever handbook all about foxes because I have not seen one before and don't know anything about them.

.........and more snow

Well I never! Even more snow this morning. Brill! No traffic, so I didn't need to be on a lead at all. The snow is polarising people (get the pun?) between those who love it and those who hate it. Guess which camp I fall into?

More snow

Well, I was even more excited today seeing another snowfall. There was even more, about 4", and I love it. I love running in it, rolling in it and eating it. I also like the snowball fights - Daddy throwing and me catching!
