The vet

Daddy went to see my doctor this afternoon. I refused to go in the car....

So Daddy went on his own and left me at home. I have run out of worming tablets, so he got some more for me. Sounds a good idea, as I do pick up all sorts of rubbish.

While there, Daddy asked some questions:

1 How can I be trained not to chase sheep - baaaa! The vet recommended walking on a lead in a sheep field as much as possible and being repeatedly held back and told no. Also, a collar might work - no, not an electric collar (they are banned apparently), but one that vibrates. You can get them on eBay, and he's found a few. Has anyone any comments about how useful they are? They're call training pagers!

2 When should I change from my puppy food? I should stay on puppy food until I am 12 months as I will still be growing then! (Since then, Daddy has spoken to James Wellbeloved and they said I should be on Junior now until 12 or 13 months.)

3 How can I be persuaded to go in the car? I am alright once I am in but I give Daddy the run-around when I think he wants to get me in the car. I am even suspicious of treats now. Daddy was advised to try giving me my meals in the car, put my bed in (or something like Daddy's t-shirt) and to put me in when we are not going anywhere.

Saying

Found on a doggie website: "A dog has lots of friends because he wags his tail more than his tongue!"

Hard Knott

Friday was the best day weather-wise of this trip to the Lakes and so we decided to climb another Wainwright and do some tarn bagging at the same time. This was great as you can see from these pictures.

The last tarn (one of the Hard Knott Tarns) was described by H H Symonds in the 1930s: "Catch all this over the water of a peat tarn, with a margin of red grasses nodding and fluttering in the sunshine, and you will not praise any unknown top more highly: in the places where man's foot seldom goes, beauty dwells none the less". And to think we nearly missed it!

The beach

We went to the beach at Roanhead this afternoon and I had my first swim in the sea! This was great and I loved digging in the sand as well.
We had fantastic views across the Duddon Estuary to the western fells.

Daddy says he hasn't been there before and we will definitely be going again. It is a National Trust site (Sandscale Haws). One thing I've learned - sea water is very salty and makes you very thirsty!

Tarn bagging

I went for a long walk yesterday morning - my longest yet. Daddy wanted to try a local walk from Nuttalls' "The Tarns of Lakeland". We found 5 tarns on Torver Common. I think tarn bagging is a great idea! See http://www.nuttalls.com/mountains/tarns.htm.

Lake District

I'm now in the Lake District. Got here yesterday and I was very excited when I arrived. I dragged Daddy down to the lake (Coniston Water) after tea and again this morning. I am now asleep in a chair (tut, tut!) dreaming of ducks and sheep. The one downside is the tick treatment Daddy has put on my neck - Frontline. But here's hoping I don't get any ticks this time.
